Community Music

Bethany is passionate about outreach and community music. She is the music lead for Pimlico Opera’s weekly sessions at HMP Bronzefield, and was the Musical Director for the sold-out performances of Made in Dagenham at the prison. Bethany also works as an accompanist with The Liberty Choir in various UK prisons, and as accompanist for London Youth Choir West and Director of ScotsCare choir.

Bethany has taken part in a number of outreach projects, helping to bring music into the lives of those who might not usually get the opportunity to engage in music-making, and those for whom music helps to increase general well-being, confidence, and social, physical and psychological skills.

A Choral Christmas 2024 @ Longfield Hall

Pimlico Opera @ HMP Bronzefield

Bethany is the music lead for Pimlico Opera’s weekly sessions at HMP Bronzefield, running the sessions alongside Helen Sennett, and choreographer Lizzi Gee and actors Dale White and Jodie Jacobs. Bethany was the Musical Director for Pimlico Opera’s 2025 full-scale production of Made in Dagenham at HMP Bronzefield, which comprised a mixed cast of prisoners and professional actors, and West-End musicians forming the band.

London Youth Choirs

Bethany is the accompanist for London Youth Choir West, as well as accompanying other LYC choirs in various performances, including at the Tower of London and at British Summer Time Hyde Park, and playing for outreach projects led by LYC in schools across London.


Garsington Opera

A Bethany has worked as a repetiteur for Garsington Opera Participate, for their youth opera Uprooted in 2025 and their community opera A Trip to the Moon in 2024.

Vocal Chords Choir

Bethany is the Musical Director of Vocal Chords Choir in Sydenham, an amateur a cappella choir who sing a variety of music from all over the world, rehearsing at 7-9pm every Monday evening in St Bartholomew’s Church Hall, Sydenham. Vocal Chords frequently take part in fundraising events, including Sing for Water, carol singing for Health Poverty Action, and performing in aid of Music as Therapy.


Longfield Voices

Bethany is the Musical Director of Longfield Voices, a free community choir open to all, based at Longfield Hall. Longfield Voices rehearse every Friday morning at 10-11:30am at Longfield Hall – all welcome! Longfield Voices love singing all kinds of music, and especially love Christmas music, carol singing every year for Health Poverty Action and at Brixton Windmill.


ScotsCare

Bethany is currently the Musical Director of the ScotsCare choir, based in Euston. ScotsCare provides a huge range of support for 1st generation Scots living in London, including housing support, financial grants, mental health support, substance misuse support, and employment training.


Intergenerational Opera

Bethany has worked as an accompanist for Intergenerational Opera, who deliver 5-week opera projects to combined groups of primary school children and elderly participants.


The Choir With No Name

Alongside her sister, Bethany ran a choir project in Watford as part of The Choir With No Name, a charity that runs choirs and provides meals for people who have experience of homelessness. The project consisted of a 5-week programme culminating in a sharing to family and friends of all the singers.

Bethany is currently leading another 6-week The Choir With No Name project at The Connections at St. Martin’s as part of their women’s only service.


Sing Inside & The Liberty Choir

Bethany has worked as an accompanist, musical director, and singer within group singing sessions in HMP Long Lartin, HMP Woodhill, and HMP Wandsworth, with Sing Inside and The Liberty Choir.


KEEN Oxford

Bethany founded a choir for KEEN Oxford, a charity facilitating activities for young people with autism and other disabilities, running weekly rehearsals from 2020-2022.


Wimbledon Music Hub

Bethany frequently volunteers for the Wimbledon Music Hub, a centre for young musicians, providing opportunities for group music-making and learning, including chamber music, a cappella, songwriting, and music theory. Click here to visit their website to find out more!


Turtle Key Arts

Bethany has worked on two of Turtle Key Arts’ projects – the first with Turtle Opera and the second with Turtle Song. Turtle Opera is a music and drama project for 10-14 year olds with autism spectrum disorders, consisting of 10 workshops culminating in a sharing to family and friends. Turtle Song involves people with early-onset dementia and their carers, and consists of song-writing, singing and dancing, again culminating in a sharing to family and friends.

Dons Local Action

During the covid-19 pandemic, Bethany volunteered daily for Dons Local Action, a charity set up specifically to tackle the heightened needs of people suffering poverty across Merton, Wandsworth and Kingston. As well as volunteering for food collections and deliveries, Bethany acquired the role of Dons Local Action Group musician, cycling to recipients’ houses when it was their birthday and playing them Happy Birthday on the accordion along with their food delivery!


The Messengers

The Messengers is a band created by Sigrun Sævarsdóttir-Griffiths, made up of music students and people with lived experience of homelessness. The band is made up of strings, wind brass, vocals and rhythm section, and performs all original music. Bethany was part of their 2021 project, writing new songs together and performing at St John’s Waterloo as part of the Waterloo Festival.


Wimbledon Oldies’ Choir

Bethany has accompanied the Wimbledon Oldies’ Choir semi-regularly since 2017. The choir is an inclusive choir for anyone aged about 70 or over, and they rehearse weekly, singing well-known songs and enjoying a cup of tea and cake whilst listening to a musical performance from a new performer each week!


Creative Minds in Song

Creative Minds in Song is a project in which composers, performers, and poets all come together in workshops and performance, to create new works. The poets are mental health service users, and the songs are entirely based on their words and creative vision. Bethany worked on the 2021 Creative Minds in Song project, with performances in St. Mary-at-Hill and St. Marylebone Parish Church as part of the St. Marylebone Festival.


Royal Hospital for Neuro-disability

Since 2016, Bethany has played for many of the weekly Sunday services at the Royal Hospital for Neuro-disability, helping to bring music to those for whom music is often one of the only forms of communication they can engage in.


OperaEd UK

OperaEd UK runs interactive, inclusive workshops, bringing opera into schools. Bethany accompanied their production of Hansel and Gretel in March 2022.
