Bethany Reeves is a collaborative pianist and musical director based in London. Bethany graduated in 2020 from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama (GSMD) with a Distinction in her masters in Piano Accompaniment, where she studied with Pamela Lidiard and Andrew West, and previously studied music at Brasenose College, Oxford, where she held organ and academic scholarships, graduated with a first, and studied piano with Anna Tilbrook.
Bethany is a staff accompanist at GSMD, musical director of Pimlico Opera’s weekly sessions at HMP Bronzefield, the largest women’s prison in Europe, Founder/Director of The Solis Choir, and director of community choirs Vocal Chords (Sydenham) and Longfield Voices (Camberwell). She is the accompanist for London Youth Choir West, and works at Garsington Opera as a repetiteur for their community and youth programme GO Participate. Bethany was recently Musical Director for Pimlico Opera’s production of Made in Dagenham at HMP Bronzefield, which involved a mixed cast of prisoners and professional actors.
Bethany was awarded first place in the 2022 Guildhall School Jubilee Piano Accompaniment Prize, the school’s most prestigious award for collaborative pianists, the accompanist prizes at the Emmy Destinn Awards (2023) and Courtney Kenny Award (2021), and was a 2022 Leeds Lieder Young Artist with baritone George Reynolds for the Leeds Lieder Festival. Bethany was a finalist in The Kathleen Ferrier Awards 2025 in Wigmore Hall, alongside tenor Philippe Durrant who was awarded 2nd prize. Bethany also works as choral arranger for singer-songwriter Tom Rosenthal, so far working together on two albums and two singles.
Bethany was previously Director of Music at St Mark’s English Church in Florence, Italy, and has held the role of Director of Music also at St Faith’s North Dulwich and Christ Church East Sheen.
Bethany has a passion for community music, and frequently works in prisons, for homelessness charities, and charities facilitating activities for people with autism and learning disabilities, to help bring music to those who might not usually have access to music-making.
Bethany’s love for music started at a young age. In 2012, when she was 11 years old, one of Bethany’s compositions was recorded by the Royal Opera House Orchestra, conducted by Antonio Pappano, and at the BAFTA awards, after winning the Royal Opera House Fanfare Competition. Bethany has a fascination for a wide variety of musical instruments — with grade 8 distinctions in six instruments, Bethany is also an instrumental teacher, including specialising in music therapy facilitation for young people with autism.
Whilst at Oxford, Bethany enjoyed playing saxophone in the Oxford University Jazz Orchestra and funk bands Garfunkel & Sisters of Funk, cello in the Oxford University Sinfonietta, and clarinet in the Oxford University Wind Orchestra, as well as playing tennis for the university.
Aside from music, Bethany enjoys running her small business, Bethany Ella Cards, which sells watercolour greetings cards, raising proceeds for various charities (currently The Passage). Bethany also enjoys pottery, swimming, tennis and being in nature!
